Singelila Sandakphu- Phalut Ridge treks

This short trekking experience offers great views of the Khangchendzonga and Chola Range. The trek starts at Dotery, and climbs from 2700 m to 3000 m in 07 kms traversing through pristine forests of Rhododendrons and Magnolias, with many varieties of orchids and diverse flora. Exotic bird species like the scarlet Minivet, Kalij pheasant, Blood pheasant, Satyr Tragopan, Parrotbills, and Fire-tailed Myzornis can be spotted. Red pandas may also be seen.

From Tonglu view point you will get a fabulous views of both, Khangchendzonga and Chola Ranges. Mount Chomalhari, in Bhutan is also visible.

The return trek is via the forest road down to Manebhanjan.

Tour starts and ends at Darjeeling . Pick up from Bagdogra, Kalimpong or locations in Sikkim can be arranged with overnight stop at Dotery.

 

ITENERIES

Day 01: Darjeeling -Maneybhanjan, 2134m- Dhotery, 2700 m-Trek to Tumling, 3000m

  

After an early breakfast, at Darjeeling set off by jeep, on a 21 kms, 1.30 hrs drive through the Himalayan foothills to Maneybhanjan . To get to the start point of our trek, we will continue our drive for another 19 kms from Manaybhanjan, to the lovely little village of Dhotrey at 2700 m.

From Dhotery to Tumling , the walking trail is a moderate steady climb from 2700 m to 3000 m in 07 kms traversing through a deep forest of Rhododendrons and Magnolias. The surrounding forest is a birders delight . Rare and exotic species like the scarlet minivet, kalij pheasant, blood pheasant, satyr tragopan, parrotbills, and fire-tailed myzornis can be spotted. The mammals that could be seen are the red panda, leopard cat, yellow-throated marten, barking deer, wild boar, and others.

Red pandas reared at the Darjeeling zoo were reintroduced into the wild at the national park. Rajesh Bedi and Naresh Bedi made a documentary on it called Cherub of the Mist that went on to win some awards. There are many varieties of orchids and diverse flora in the forest, which explains the heady fragrance that hangs in the air.

Today being your first trekking day you will feel the strain on your climbing muscles and lungs. Easy pace over the 7 kms trail, will enable you to complete the days trekking in 4-5 hrs.You will stay overnight at ei Tumling in a comfortable private lodge, or at the trekkers hut at Tonglu.You will stay overnight at either Tumling in a comfortable private lodge, or at the trekkers hut at Tonglu.

Day 02: Trek Tumling- Tonglu Ridge- Tumling – -Garibas, 2621 Mtrs

  

Rise early for a sunrise view from Tonglu ridge view point. Weather permitting you will get a fabulous views of both, Singalila and Chola Ranges. Mount Chomalhari, in Bhutan is also visible. Return to Tumling for breakfast.

After a liesurly breakfast, your guide will lead you along a trail through the Singalila National Park. Mature forests, cascading streams and wild flowers, are a delight to the senses. A easy paced downhill walk of just 06 kms will bring you to Garibas in just 02 hrs. Check in at the trekkers hut or a comfortable private lodge, in time for lunch.

In the afternoon explore the surrounding forests with your guide . Overnight at Garibas in the trekkers hut or a private lodge.

Day 03: Trek Garibas, 2621 – Phoktey- Phedi Khola, 1800 m. Drive to Darjeeling 65 Kms

Today we will take the return trek down hill descending 800 m in 3-4 hrs . The walk is through pristine forests . Picnic lunch enroute. Drive to Darjeeling in 03 hrs.
